Helena Frank is a Swedish illustrator and print designer, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She has been drawing ever since she first held a pencil. Helena grew up in a typical medium-sized Swedish town, eager to see more of the world.
Frank has studied at Konstfack (University college of Art, Crafts and Design) in Sweden, and the National Film School of Denmark, where she was awarded ‘Best Danish animation talent’ in her final year. She graduated as Animation Director in 2010, and her award-winning graduation film “Heavy Heads” was selected for many festivals, amongst them the Berlinale.
After wandering for some time in the wilderness that is life after graduation she found her true calling as an illustrator and haven’t looked back since.
In the winter of 2015 she established ‘Helena Frank Studio’, where she creates art prints that are sold through her webshop and design stores worldwide. From her studio in Copenhagen she illustrates her art prints and work on commission.
Helena’s love of human behaviour is key to her work. She has always been interested in making careful observations of the world and observe people and the situations they find themselves in.
Frank works with a traditional hand-drawn pencil technique. With muted colour palettes and firm attention to detail, her imaginative illustrations always remain grounded in reality. Her work is tender, playful as well as being unusual, and at times surreal. Her wish is to shine some light on the oddity of the everyday.
Through the years, she has created a signature style with her pencil drawings creating an unusual and atmospheric universe, filled with architecture, humans, animals and unexpected scenes always represented with a delicate hand and a hyper realistic technique.
